Spybot Search and Destroy is a FREE program that is very similar to the Adaware program listed below. It offers some of the same functionality in te premium version of adaware for free One of the main differences is that it included several utilities, one called teatimer which is a utility that runs in the background, monitoring your computer for any new spyware compononts or browser hijack attempts. If a harmful program tries to modify your registry The program will pop up a notification asking for your permission before the modification is made. Spybot also included a background program that makes sure that many common spyware/adware/malware programs don't make it onto your computer in the first place.

Adaware 6
Spyware can manifest itself in many ways. It can be anything from a "search bar" in you internet browser or large amounts of popup ads...even when you're not browsing the Internet.
After downloading this program, please be sure to click the "Update now" button before running the scan. This is similar to updating the virus definitions on a virus program. It downloads a list of all the new spyware components on the internet.
Adaware offers a free version and a premium version. The premium version adds additional functionality that is not found in the free version.
